NHAARG - When All Hope is Gone
Allez, citez-moi un label français qui sort des albums de black metal. Même s’il propose d’autres styles en plus du BM, pas de souci ! Vous dites quoi ? Osmose ? Ladlo ? Season of Mist ? Transcendance ? Adipocère ? Chanteloup !!! Bon, bon, vous remontez loin là quand même avec le dernier… Non, celui dont j’ai l’intention de parler aujourd’hui est plus discret. Il a sorti très peu d’albums en un peu plus de 10 ans et pourtant on a tous dû déjà entendre son nom : Crush the Desert Records ! Si, si, il est français ! Je sais bien que certains ne s’en étaient pas rendu compte, et c’est bien légitime puisqu’il a tendance à signer des groupes de toutes nationalités… sauf français ! On a trouvé chez lui les Russes de VOLKOLAK et ceux de WOLFKRIEG, les Biélorusses de PIAREVARACIEN ou encore les Chiliens de ELTUN, mais des Français… J’ai beau chercher, il n’y en a pas. Ah si ! EMBATERION et un EP en 2014, dans un style qui ne me concerne pas : du death / thrash…
Eh bien le tour du monde des nationalités continue en 2022 avec deux nouveaux groupes. Un allemand du nom de KAMPFESWUT, et un espagnol qui s’appelle NHAARG. C’est de celui-ci dont nous allons parler dans cette chronique, après avoir précisé que ce n’est pas la première collaboration entre l’homme derrière ce groupe et cette écurie puisque monsieur Nhaarg joue aussi pour DURTHANG, autre formation qui a publié une démo chez le Français. Nhaarg n’est pas un nouveau venu dans le black metal, et il est également membre de PESTICUM, groupe très underground qui ne sort que des demos depuis 2010, sans se préoccuper du format « album ». Nhaarg ne parvient pas à se satisfaire de ces projets, et c’est ainsi qu’en 2020 il a décidé d’en créer un nouveau, encore plus personnel et portant son propre nom : NHAARG.
Pourquoi ? Avait-il quelque originalité ou différence à apporter à sa musique en jouant seul ? Eh bien, presque. Il ne va pas créer ici des ambiances révolutionnaires, mais plutôt se complaire dans une autre branche du black metal, une branche qu’il fait bien plaisir de retrouver tant elle me semble insuffisamment représentée : la black metal lourd et sinueux. Hmmmmm... Pas sûr que le terme soit suffisamment clair... Alors disons que NHAARG n’a pas choisi un black metal qui matraque, qui va vite ou qui veut détruire par la haine, mais plutôt qu’il choisir un rythme bien plus lent pour s’immiscer progressivement dans l’âme de l’auditeur. Sur les six morceaux, presque tous ont cette dominante vicieuse, cette approche sadique et perverse. Ainsi, « Aura », « Black Light Shining » et « En mi bosque negro de la desesperación » ont de gros relents de JUDAS ISCARIOT et CLANDESTINE BLAZE. Bon, calmons-nous, le charisme et l’efficacité sont juste un bon cran en-dessous, mais les ressemblances sont bien là. « Those Who Are Crying Forever » aussi contient cette formule, mais avec un passage plus nerveux, tout comme le titre qui clôt l’album : « Chamber of the Dead Orc ». Malheureusement ce n’est pas très convaincant lorsque le groupe accelère le rythme, tombant dans du commun vite ennuyeux... « Void » quant à lui est un intrumental ambiant de 3 minutes.
Le talent de NHAARG est de parvenir à agripper l’auditeur et de lui plonger avec impassibilité la tête dans une flaque de noirceur. Il va l’y noyer sans avoir beaucoup de force à y mettre, se rendant compte que sa victime accepte volontiers son sort. C’est donc un album honnête et qui la capacité à transmettre aisément ses émotions négatives.

Mondfinsternis/Nocturne/Crush The Desert Records/2021 CD Review
Russia's Mondfinsternis has returned with a new recording which shows them once again moving away from the pagan black metal style of earlier releases and going for a fantasy orientated mixture of dungeon synth and dark ambient and this is a review of their 2021 album "Nocturne" which was released by Crush The Desert Records.
Dungeon synth style synths start off the album and also give the music a fantasy movie orientated atmosphere while also adding in a variety of many different sounding keys. Touches of classical music can also be heard at times along with the music also adding in a very medieval sound at times.
Programmed beats are also utilized in some parts of the recording while all of the tracks also sound very different from each other. One song also adds in a brief use of winter sounds along with the music also adding in a decent amount of dark ambient elements and a couple of the songs are long and epic in length as well as all of the album also sticking to an instrumental direction.
On this recording Mondfinsternis continues the move away away from the pagan black metal style and creates a very fantasy orientated mixture of dungeon synth and dark ambient that is very heavily rooted by the keyboards sections of Summoning albums while the production also sounds very dark.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Mondifinsternis and while some black metal fans might not like the new direction, I can see this album appealing to fans of dungeon synth and dark ambient. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nocturne" "Dark River" "Eternal Sun" and "Epitaph". 8 out of 10.
MONDFINSTERNIS - Nocturne
Mondfinsternis è un duo russo di musica ritual dark ambient: i membri del progetto hanno anche avuto precedenti esperienze in ambito black-metal con i Wolfkrieg. Ora – dopo il precedente Where The Heaven Endes del 2015 – esce un nuovo disco di Mondfinsternis intitolato Galdrastafir: si tratta di un lavoro molto cupo e nordico fin dalla copertina nel solco di un immaginario paganeggiante e mistico. Le sonorità sono marziali e rituali e ci trasportano in una dimensione temporale immobile in cui – durante il Ragnarok – si fronteggiano le forze della luce e quelle delle tenebre. Fin dall’iniziale “Deprun” siamo avvolti in un’atmosfera da tregenda: rintocchi funebri e ambientazioni minacciose evocano scenari da incubo. La successiva “Aegishjalmur” inizia con cinguetti di uccellini e prosegue su tonalità plumbee. La terza traccia – la lunga “Lukkustafir” – è il pezzo forte dell’album: i suoni freddi delle tastiere, gli archi e i possenti rimbombi delle ritmiche ci conducono nel Valhalla ad Asgard al cospetto di Odino. È una musica molto cinematica che sarebbe stata perfetta come colonna sonora della serie tv Vikings in cui, non a caso, comparivano i Wardruna. “Draumfstafir” prosegue il viaggio in maniera più pacata ed eterea. La chiusura è affidata alla sinuosa “Vegvisir” che ci avvolge in spirali mantriche misticheggianti. Alla fine del’ascolto si rimane come storditi e si ha come l’impressione di aver vissuto durante l’Età dell’Oro. In definitiva siamo di fronte ad un disco di spessore che piacerà sicuramente agli amanti del dark-ambient rituale. Consiglio di accompagnare l’ascolto di Galdrastafir alla lettura di Gli dei Germani di Georges Dumézil.
A Crush the Desert não para de surpreender. Chegou a nossas mãos o trabalho dos russos do Mondfinsternis, entitulado “Galdrastafir” (Galdra = mágica) e “stafir” (vara ou cajado). Normalmente se refere ao cravar algo de runas atribuindo-lhe poder.
O álbum traz cinco faixas de rituais nórdicos e ambientes. É um álbum subjetivo e se torna mais interessante quando abraçamos seu simbolismo, pois as faixas são todas referentes a símbolos eslavos antigos e são dotados de muita força e energia.
Ao longo de Dreprun, Aegishjalmur, Lukkstafir, Draumstafir E Vegvisir temos evocações de “rune staves”, combinação de runas que vão desde impor medo no inimigo, como proteção, sorte e iluminação.
O instrumental segue o desígnio da temática, então recomendo acender a vela do seu altar viking e meditar ao longo das cinco faixas, ser surpreendido pelo som doa corvos e da tempestade.
Ouça sozinho e deixe-me guiar pelos símbolos, busque seu significado e entenda a melodia a partir do simbolismo. O ambiente prevalece sobre a música. As vozes são desnecessárias e a banda entendeu isso. E você?

DURTHANG
„The Winter Woods” (Demo/Ep)

Durthang to projekt, w którym połączyło siły dwóch muzyków dobrze znanych w hiszpańskim, Black Metalowym undergroundzie. Obaj panowie udzielają się w hordzie Pesticum, a prócz tego uzewnętrzniają się także w Nhaarg i Thangorodrim. Cóż, trzy wymienione tu powyżej zespołu są mi całkowicie obce i poza tym, że jak się domyślam, parają się także Czarcim graniem, nic nie potrafię o nich powiedzieć. W Durthang natomiast duet ten tworzy Black Metal (jakże by mogło być inaczej ?) zainfekowany elementami muzyki ludowej, zakorzeniony w latach 90-tych, tak mocno, jak tylko się da. Napotkamy tu zatem prostą jak konstrukcja cepa sekcję rytmiczną, młócącą tępo, podobnie, jak to skomplikowane urządzenie, chropowate, zimne, leśne riffy zaprawione pewną dawką mrocznych, melancholijnych melodii, trochę klawisza i ponure, złowrogo wibrujące wokale. Wspominając o folkowych inklinacjach, jakie wyraźnie można tu wyłapać, nie miałem na myśli zastosowania piszczałek, fletów, przyśpiewek rodem z wiejskiego wesela, czy innych bałałajek, ale przede wszystkim charakterystyczną rytmikę, jaką usłyszymy w zawartych tu wałkach i równie charakterystyczne struktury wioseł. Dlatego też w tym aspekcie muzyka Durthang może kojarzyć się z pierwszymi produkcjami Isengard, czy Storm. Wokalnie natomiast zdecydowanie przebija się tu Abbath z czasów, gdy Immortal święcił największe triumfy. Materiał ten ubrano w pasujące do zawartych tu dźwięków jak ulał, minimalistyczne, ziarniste, nieokrzesane, chłodne brzmienie, które nadaje tej produkcji lekko mistycznego, pogańskiego klimatu. Prosta, a momentami wręcz prymitywna to muzyka, ale ma swój niezaprzeczalny urok. Przenosi nas bowiem do czasów, gdy Black Metal był surowy, nieskomplikowany i bezkompromisowy, choć z pewnością trochę bardziej koślawy i nie tak dobrze zagrany. Kto zatem z nostalgią wspomina tamte czasy i muzykę wówczas tworzoną powinien zaznajomić się z „The Winter Woods”, gdyż materiał ten z pewnością przypadnie mu do gustu, a i łezkę tęsknoty za starymi czasami ów delikwent zapewne przy nim także uroni. Krążek dla zdeklarowanych fanów tradycyjnej czerni z pogańskim szlifem.
